Climate Risk - Low Probability - High Risk Events - Climate Adaptation

Matt Varkony, a 4th year PhD student at RSMAS, is dedicated to studying the response of vulnerable coastal communities to catastrophic climate events. His research focuses on unraveling the mechanisms that result in varying impacts within these communities. By doing so, he aims to gain a deeper understanding of the long-term consequences of climate change on the accessibility and affordability of coastal regions.

Matt, originally from Denver, Colorado, exhibits a keen interest in aquatic hobbies, as evidenced by his academic pursuits and extra-curricular activities. During his leisure time, he enjoys cycling to the seaside, playing golf (while steering clear of water hazards), snowboarding on frozen slopes in Colorado and engaging in basketball (sinking three-pointers).
